Cruising to Ayutthaya
Cruising to Ayutthaya
Overview
This tour has been carefully planned to avoid the big busy roads and instead follows the path of the mighty Chao Phraya river along quiet backstreets and alleyways through the hidden away communities and criss-crossing little streams and canals over locally made wooden bridges. Along this tour we’ll pass through some ancient historical sites of the UNESCO World heritage ancient city of Ayutthaya . You will also be captivated by the serene views of endless expanses of rice fields as well as the beautiful Bang Pa In palace which dates back to the seventeenth century with its ornate buildings and perfectly manicured lakes and lawns.
Itinerary
The day starts with an early morning pick up at your hotel – around 7 a.m. and then head out by van to a neighbouring province where we start the tour.
This first stretch is mostly through riverside communities following the alleyways and walkways. We’ll pass by an interesting historical site which is over 400 years old. And if you’ve seen the barges that are towed up and down the Chao Phraya river, along this stretch we’ll pass by the place where these barges are actually made. We continue, following the path of the river to see how the local people go about their daily lives, many of whom make a living from the Chao Phraya. Throughout the ride we have regular water breaks with the first snack break at Wat Bot – a local temple which has become quite an attraction amoung Thai people because of its huge Buddha and Monk images… not to mention its vibrant market and fish sanctuary.
After the snack break, we continue our adventure to Bang Pa In – the famous summer palace of King Rama V. For this stretch you have the option of either cycling or being transferred by van. Lunch is at Bang Pa In, followed by a walk through the famous palace compound as well as visit to a temple built in Gothic European architectural style. After lunch we continue heading north following the contour of the river. river in ayutthaya This will take us through some more interesting little communities as well as past vast endless panoramas of luscious green or golden yellow rice fields, depending on the time of the season.
