Bangkachao Adventure Bike Tour

Tour Overview

In a city of highrise buildings, skyscrapers and a maze of criss-crossing roads and footpaths, there are a few places that have been kept natural, where the air is clean and crisp and natural jungles dominate the landscape. This is the island of Bang Krachao or more commonly known as "the Green Lung" of Bangkok.

With a single road leading into Bang Krachao the only other way to access this haven of green, is by boat across the Chao Phraya river. There are no large scale industries, no imposing concrete skyscrapers and best of all no chaotic traffic. Here most people would use scooters and even more popular are bicycles which proves to be the best way to discover this enchanting little paradise.

Our tour is mostly along elevated pathways along canals and rivers which meander through lush plantations of water palms and mangroves. Communities are vastly different to what you would experience in the city and each community in Bang Krachao specializes in a different product such as producing herbal massage balls or cloth dying using natural ingredients.

Temples here are unique in structure and mostly old styled, however each temple is actively involved in preserving the environment through innovative recycling processes. A trip to Bang Krachao is really a chance to unwind from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and to reconnect with nature as we cycle through green forests, tranquil parks, friendly communities with the sounds of nature as company.

Detailed Itinerary

You will be picked up at your hotel and transferred by Tuk Tuk to the island (about an hour's ride). Having a morning coffee for a good start-up, while our team gets the bikes ready for you.

The first stage of cycling is to a Mon styled temple called Wat Chak Daeng. This temple specializes in educating the local people about recycling and has created unique ways of using waste plastic to produce material for clothes, including the monks robes. Another innovative creation is that of a pollution entrapment system called the Red Dragon. From here we continue our cycling through the mangrove fields which takes us past the local "beach" and to another ancient temple with an intriguing history and architecture dating back to 1844.

After this we continue cycling around the island, on elevated walkways and along the canals. We have frequent stops at places of interest which also gives us a good insight into the way of life of the people on Bang Krachao island. On route there are optional extras such as kayaking or if you have kiddies, we can visit the adventure education park for them – this however is not included in the cost of the tour.

Before making our way back to the pick-up point, we stop for coffee and snacks at a quaint little coffee shop before heading back for a well deserved lunch and, then on home. The trip home is as interesting as we pass through the famous Bangkok flower market, Ban Mo street market and Khao San Road before arriving back at the Just Nok office.
