Enchanted Nakhon Pathom
Tour Overview
If you think you've seen it all in Bangkok, then it's time to get out and experience the magic of Nakhon Pathom.
What is generally regarded as the first city of Thailand, Nakhon Pathom is the birthplace of Buddhism in Thailand and celebrates this fact by hosting the world's largest chedi. Over several hundreds of years, the landscape of Nakhon Pathom has changed dramatically due to droughts and the flooding of the Tha Chin river. This has resulted in this province being extremely fertile and has become the leading center of organic farming in Thailand.
This tour will have you cycling through some of the most lush fruit and veg orchards on offer as well as visiting a museum of astounding woodworking craftsmanship, a temple that offers magical tattoos as well as the world famous Wat Phra Pathom Chedi - a marvel of ornate and exquisite architecture.
Detailed Itinerary
This tour can be done by van support or by local train.
With van support
This option involves you being picked up at 8:00 AM at your hotel - please wait in the lobby. Once on our way, your guide will give you a full briefing on the day's events. The trip out of Bangkok will be about 30 minutes to the starting point of the tour. In addition the van will follow us throughout the tour and also return you to your hotel at the end of the day.
By Train
We meet at Just Nok shop at 6:00 AM and after a tour briefing we cycle to the train station to catch the 7:20 AM train. The train ride out of Bangkok is about 40 minutes and passes through some amazing countryside with lush vegetation. Once at Nakhon Pathom we start the cycling leg of the tour. At the end of the tour we again take the train back to Bangkok.
The cycling
Once in Nakhon Pathom we start cycling along quiet rural roads that takes us through local communities, rice paddies, lotus plantations and farming areas before we reach "What a View" coffee shop along the peaceful Tha Chin river. Here we can have a well earned bio break, re-energize ourselves with a light snack as well as visit the Woodlands museum displaying thousands of mind blowing carvings.
After our break, we continue cycling through the plantations, crossing well-worn rustic wooden bridges that adds a bit of survival adventure to the tour as well as a short boat ride to the restaurant for a delicious local lunch. After lunch, it's back on the bikes, to visit the beautiful orchid farms followed by a variety of farms of various crops such as basil, dill, elephant ear plant, ferns and lots more.
On this tour, the best is saved for last, as we visit the largest chedi in the world called Wat Phra Pathom Chedi. This is a First class Royal Temple of Nakhon Pathom province and the birthplace of Buddhism in Thailand. From here, we'll pack the bikes either into the van or train and make our way back to Bangkok.
