Road to Ayutthaya Bike Tour

Tour Overview

This full-day classic Thailand bike tour has been carefully planned to avoid the big busy roads and instead follows the path of the mighty Chao Phraya river along quiet backstreets and alleyways through the hidden away communities and criss-crossing little streams and canals over locally made wooden bridges.

Along this tour we'll pass through some ancient historical sites of the UNESCO World Heritage ancient city of Ayutthaya. You will also be captivated by the serene views of endless expanses of rice fields as well as the warmth and friendliness of the people who still hold on to the traditional way of life.

Detailed Itinerary

The day starts with an early morning hotel pickup in Bangkok at around 7:00 AM. We travel by VIP van to the ancient city of Ayutthaya.

Once in Ayutthaya, we’ll go directly to the main attraction which is the world famous, 14th century Wat Mahathat (face-in-the-tree temple). After a walk-through the magnificent temple ruins, we’ll return to the van and prepare for the cycling stage of the tour.

As we cycle out of the ancient city of Ayutthaya, we’ll cross the Chao Phraya river by local ferry. From here we head south, following the contour of the river. This takes us through interesting little communities of different cultures and religions all dotted with less famous ancient ruins.
Along the way we’ll cycle past panoramas of lush green or golden yellow rice fields, depending on the time of the season. Our lunch stop will be at Bang Pa In - the famous Summer Palace of King Rama V. Before leaving Bang Pa In, we must visit a unique temple built in Gothic European architectural style. Not only is this temple unique, but getting to this temple is an adventure in itself – surprise!

After lunch we continue following the river towards Wat Bot. For this stretch you have the option of either cycling or being transferred by van. Wat Bot is a local temple that has become quite an attraction among Thai people because of its huge Buddha and Monk images, not to mention its vibrant market and fish sanctuary.
This is a good place for a bio break as well as a well-deserved snack break.

After the snack break, we continue along the river through riverside communities, following the alleyways and walkways to see how the local people go about their daily lives, many of whom make a living from the Chao Phraya. Our final stop will be at Ong Ang Kiln archaeological site – dating back to over 400 years.
From here, we’ll pack the bikes and transfer back to your hotel in Bangkok.
